Lost Pencils

One of the things I ran into my first year of teaching was that each day, I would find at least 4-5 pencils on the floor after school. I really wasn't sure what to do with them, and I was exhausted by that time, so sadly I usually tossed them out. Today's project was small and easy. I took an old bucket and turned it into a place where I can throw lost pencils after each day. Then, when kids forget their pencil, I can direct them to the lost pencil bucket to take one from there, instead of bugging their classmates for an extra pencil.

Instead of gluing it to the bucket, I just covered it in packing tape. Super quick and easy!
What are some small things you weren't expecting/planning for in your classroom?
